On my LK204-25 display, I'd like to use a horizontal bar graph, regular one-line text, and also medium size numbers all at the same time. This requires 14 custom characters, spanning two memory banks.
After attempting to load these custom characters as needed, it appears that it's not possible to use characters from two different memory banks on the same screen. For example, if I've loaded the bar graph characters and display those, then when I load the second bank to display my custom medium digits (2 columns x 2 rows), the bar graph characters immediately change to the corresponding characters in the new bank.
Is there any way to get around this and be able to use more than one bank for custom characters?
This is a limitation in the lcd controller on the actual display, as much as we would like to give you more then 8 custom characters at a time it just can't be done.
Nope 99.99% of all alphanumeric displays share the same controller chip (or compatible version of it) the only way around it would be using a graphical display.
