Abnormally high CPU temp with MX2
Abnormally high CPU temp with MX2
Ever since I plugged my MX2 in, I've had a much higher than normal CPU temperature. Idle is generally around 35C (95F) without the display. With the display plugged in it shoots up to 43C (110F) and stays there. Is this normal? I can't say I'm very comfortable with my CPU constantly running almost 10C hotter.
Hi PowerMatt,
Thank you for your post.
I understand the concern of running the PC 10deg hotter than normal. I do not think this should be the case but then I am going to get an MX2 hooked and see if I experience the same thing. What devices are connected to the MX2, GPOs, fans, etc?
Also, I need to know where you are getting the CPU temp from, what software are you using? Do you notice a cosiderable CPU load difference when you plug in the MX2? If the CPU load is much higher this means the CPU runs harder and hence temperature increases.
Best Regards,

I just have the display with nothing else connected to it.
The computer in question is an AMD 64 3700+ on an Asus K8V-X SE motherboard. It uses a pretty typical winbond chip for temperatures. The software being used is SpeedFan. I have checked the load when using it, and it's generally never above 2-3%. The CPU does have an integrated temperature sensor, but it almost always agrees with the motherboard's sensors (if it's off, it's by 2-3 degrees).
I've also noticed this tendency with other USB devices such as my external dvd burner. When I use its USB connection the CPU's temperature is higher. If I use the firewire interface, it runs at normal temperatures. It may just be an issue with my hardware, but it sure is a weird one... I have six other USB devices plugged in and none of this cause this issue.
