Your are correct about the unit being the warranty is voided for this error. I will tell you what the capacitor right below the USB connector is. The capacitor is a 10nF ceramic capacitor in a 603 package. You may want to ask your electronic shop if they can get you those types of capacitors. If you can't get one, we'll snail mail a couple to you.

With your infos about the defective part, I've done a litte research in a few catalogues and actual have found a suitable 0603 cap. Material is X7F ceramic, tolerance 10 % at 50 V max. This will do, I think. Expense is about 10
