Ok so I just found my LCD2041 in a box of parts and decided to start working on the project I bought it for. In any case the output is not what I expect. Plain text sent appears as incorrect characters. Commands issued also result in characters rather than the desired function (ie: clear screen appears as a block like a piece of a graph, backlight off results in a chinese (?) character, etc).
Now it's been a while since I last used the display but I'm pretty sure I got it to work at some point. I'm certain I'm using the same serial cable (only one I have) and the same AT power supply I used last time. What should I be looking for to find the source of the problem?
I know it's a pretty vague question but I've tried some custome code, LCD Smartie, and LCD Tester and they all provide the same results.
LCD2041 Rev 1.22 - Strange output
By demo software do you mean LCD Tester? I tried that and selected the module type correctly and ran at 19200 baud on COM1 and it produced the same results. J1 and J2 are both closed which should put me at 19200. I will check to make sure the max rate on the COM port is at least 19200 in the control panel and try some other baud rates for testing.
This is the problem, however not a misconfiguration. J1 and J2 are "On" (shorted) but I can only get software (LCD Tester 1.0, LCD Smartie, custom code, etc) to communicate with the display at 1200 baud. I have tried all available jumper configurations listed and they all work at 1200 baud but not at the baud the jumper is setting them at.Miles wrote:From what your explaining to me it sounds like a baud rate problem. Try using our demo software and communicate at 19200 buad (defaullt).
I notice that the only setting where all 4 jumpers are off is 1200 baud. I've tried different jumpers as well (not that I assume this is the problem). Which leads me to believe the traces to the jumper are not good or the function that sets the baud rate is not working.
Now I'm pretty sure I had the display working at 19200 when I first got it and am stumped as to why it would only work at 1200 now that it's been sitting in a box for a while. Anyway glad it's working but 1200 baud is far from practical so any other suggestions are glady appreciated

From what your explaining it is definitely a hardware related problem. I will need you to email me at myero@matrixorbital.ca so we can set up the RMA procedure. I will need to see the unit to determine the exact problem.
