Thanks Henry,

Thats what I expected.

Hmm... well I'll have to write another email to customer service and see what they say about this... do I need to buy a new blue filter or did they just forget to apply a blue filter on the replacement VFD when they sent me the new one out.

Thanks for your help.

With one notable exception. :grr:

My unit was not recalled. I paid shipping to return the unit to Matrix Orbital to be repaired.

The VK204-24-USB Technical Manual, Page 10, Figure 9: Fan Headers, labels the pins RPM, +5V, and GND. Is the center pin really +5V? Wouldn't a fan header typically be 12V? If I don't want to radically undervolt my 12V fans, I will have to by 5V fans, which are a rather rare animal.

I'll make sure that you are componsated, please e-mail me your RMA number henryj@matrixorbital.ca

The fan headers can be either +5V or +12V depending on the jumper setting above the 3.5" power cable header, by default the display should be in the +12V possition.

Excellent, thanks. You will make a note to the documentation person to add that information to the next manual revision?
"The VK204-24-USB has a secondary power connector used for High Power GPOs. Only if you are planning on using GPO 5, GPO 6 and GPO 7 as 12V should you plug in a unmodified 3.5" floppy power cable."
The fan headers are GPO's 1-4.

Hi David,

The reason you were not compensated earlier is because you were one of the first people to have this problem...so at that time we weren't even aware there was a problem. When the recalled was issued you name was overlooked because an RMA had previously been issue. We are doing our best to compensate you and you should be receiveng an email soon outlining the provisions. Once again, sorry for any inconvenience regarding this matter.

Miles, Thank you. Goofups don't bother me. Everyone, every company, stubs a toe now and then. In my opinion, you have handled this situation very well.

I received a little box of goodies today, compliments of Matrix Orbital, including a couple of temperature probes. Thanks guys!

Seems like I have asked this, but I don't find it. Is there any particular reason why the keypad interface was changed from 5 rows by 5 columns (on the serial version of the LK204) to 4 rows by 6 columns (on the USB version)?

Oh, BTW, the repaired VK204-24-USB is working fine so far. No smoke. :P

Either the rows or the columns need to be interrupt driven. As it turns out we needed one for another purpose, so instead of 5 we only had 4 left. And there we had 6 more pins left over, so it became 4x6. So no real special reason, we just ran out of pins :P
