Another LCDC Problem

Post by led »

I've only had my lcd (mx212) for q few days and love it and LCDC. However, I found that when LCDC is running my internet connection slows down to the point where webpages take too long to load. When I check the status on the Task Manager (winxp), it looks as if little or no activity is going on. If I quit LCDC and hit refresh, the page loads normally and the Task Manager shows normal operation.

I'm honestly stunned that LCDC coul have that effect most strange! The onlt thing LCDC does do is check mail (if setup) and download the odd bit of information if needed by RSS / WEA etc. I know that when it is downloading is can slow LCDC down itself, but I see no other reason why it should do that, and to be honest I can't think of what to suggest, excepty trying the latest beta to see if it makes any difference (need to mail me for the location of it)

I reinstalled LCDC and even with the beta (looks great!) the connection still stalls. FWIW, I have an external modem.

Do you have any mail accounts setup, or are you using the RSS/WEA/STQ/STI plugins (all stuff that access the internet)? Maybe just try and run LCDC in a real basic mode, so we can try to determine what is wrong. If you head over to my forums (http://forums.planetdps.com) you will see over 8000 messages and not once this has come up before, so I'm pretty sure we can work out why it is happening!

I did as you suggested, cleared my mail account, unchecked all plugins, disabled the system clock feature and loaded a new display file with only one screen (uptime info). The internet connection still stalls but I noticed now that it's only when the display is on, if it's stopped everything goes back to normal. could it be a conflict between the LCD and the modem?

I got the problem solved! I think there must've been a conflict or something. I connected the LCD to the usb headers on the motherboard and now everything is in harmony. Thanks for all the help Mat!
