Well, simple.

1. If we invest time, money, displays and resources into software (like we have many times) and other companies have not, why should they benefit from our hard work?

2. Closed source generaly means it's some ones project, and spends allot of time on it, example, LCDProc has been indevelopment for 7 years now (+/-) and LCDC had more features in 3 months. Also, this general means we can pay some one to do it as well and feel safe.

Open source some times does not work, some times it does.

I would love to have something that could output simple infos about my server.. It is console-only, so just like the load, RAM usage, and eth0/eth1 in/out (that's 4 total lines, for everything ;)).. I haven't gotten my LCD hooked up to my server yet, because I have no software to run it. Once I get software, of any sort, I will be hooking it up.

How do people run their LCD's on a console-only Linux??

Also, OSS is better IMO (I write OSS web-software ;)) but the need for Closed Source is there, such as when a private company invests time and money into a project. Now, I bet that MO could have this done faster if they told the community what they wanted and the OSS people got behind it.. But this is just my 03:10 ranting ;)

It's pretty simple: just cat what you want to the correct serial port.

Code: Select all

uptime > /dev/ttys2

Post by Carrick Mortimer »

Hello all,
Ive just ordered a M/O LCD (seriel 20x4 blue) and would love linux software closed or open as long as its more versitile than LCDproc or Lcd4linux they both do my head in. :-? and having to mess around with perl modules to get mp3 info on a screen?....what the hell is that about???? :eyebrow:

Bring it on Henry .....Ill buy it.....Ill even give you one of my kidneys for it, 'cause i know it will save me a stroke (thanks to config files) in the long run.
Its better to have a trebuchet and not need one. than need one and not have one.
