LK162 TTL datasheet not clear

Post by teaman »

Hello

I just purchased an LK162-12. The revision, annoyingly, is 2.2 but besides the point of this post..

I am connecting it to a microcontroller with RS232TTL protocol. So, I soldered jumpers 2&3 closed and opened jumpers 1&4 as the datasheet says (section 2.1.6).

When I power the screen up I see the "Matrix Orbital" screen but I cannot communicate with it. I have the baud rate set at 19,100. I tried a master-reset of the LCD unit but it didn't fix anything.

According to section 2.1.7, "The I2C setting is default on the LK162-12". I cannot find any information on how to change the setting to RS232 w/TTL! I tried desoldering both jumpers labeled 'I' to no avail (see picture in section 2.1.7).

Could someone help because this is a really frustrating problem and the documentation seems very incomplete.............

Thanks
Raquel

Hello Teaman,

Thank you for posting on the forum.

I have a couple of questions I want to ask you:
1) How are you communicating with your LK162-12, via the 4 pin connector or the DB9?
2) Have you tried communicating with the LK162-12 via PC first? Was it working then?
3) Have you looked at soldering the 2 'Rs on the board, (if you are using the 4 pin connector). Please check out page 15 of the manual

Hi Raquel

Thanks for the reply.

1. I'm using the 4 pin connector.

2. No but I do not have the CD.

3. No but I cannot see this in the manual?? Perhaps I do not have the latest manual.. (the server won't let me download it). If I close the two 'R' jumpers should I have the 'I' ones open or closed?

Thanks
Raquel

Hi Teaman,

You do not need to have the CD to test the module with a PC. You can download uProject here.

If you close the 'R' jumpers, you will need to open the 'I' jumpers.

Please let me know how it turns out,

Raquel,

Thanks, I will try it and let you know.

Just out of interest, does 'I' stand for I2C and 'R' stand for RS232? I just downloaded the latest manual and there is no mention of this.. nor is there any mention of soldering the 'R' jumpers. Shouldn't this be changed in the manual?

Thanks

Hello Teaman,

It should be documented in page 13 of this manual
Please make sure that you downloaded the same one.
