Noob I2C question and LCD2041

Post by larcho »

I'm in the process of building a mini-itx system using a Via Epia MII10000 Main board. I want to add a nice matrix orbital 20x4 Character LCD and don't know which one to choose.

It's seems that the easiest chouse would be going with the LK204-24-USB, but it's the expensiest one.

I noticed that via epia MII10000 boards come with a I2C conexion, which I understand is supported with matrix orbital lcds too. Could I go with the LCD2041 conecting it to the I2C conexion and be able to fully use LCDC?

Thanks

PS: This seems to be I2C pin layout for the MII10000:
1 +3.3 V
2 +3.3 V
3 EL-ON
4 SMBCK
5 SMBDT
6 GND

Hi Larcho,

Thank you for posting at the forums.

If you get the LCD2041 you will be able to use I2C, but not in conjunction with LCDC. LCDC uses RS-232 communications which is through the serial com port. You will also need to program your own program if you were to communicate via I2C because of that reason. I suggest you go connect it through the serial com port, if you were to use LCDC. That way you will be able to get a less expensive display, and you can use LCDC.

If you have anymore questions or concerns, please feel free to post.

:D

Best Regards,
