Just about ready to buy but few questions

Post by Mikie »

Which one is best for my needs, just a little noob.

I want the 2 x 5 1/4 4 line display. Basically the main difference is color of screen, typ of back lighting and if there is a key pad on the display itself.

Correct?

I am looking at either the 422 or the 522, the buttons just seem to ruin the look (IMHO)

What I want:
1) Control 3 Fans
2) Control two Cold Cathode lights
3) two temp gauges

If possible, the 4 line display only taking up on 5 1/4?

Is there a better one? Or more so, which ones would work for me?

Thanks, for opinions.

Hello, the MX422 and MX522 are different for there technologies. The VFD (Vaccum Florecent) unit, versus the LCD(Liquid Crystal), will have wider viewing angles and are usually used for applications with extented temperature requirements. The filter options are also useful for some outdoor applications...to help filter out direct sunlight..

The selection to use the VFD or LCD will basicly depend on the end application and your personal preference.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns.

Is there no difference, besides the display?
I am just looking for a nice boot screen, and the control of fans, and CCFL.

Since either one would work, would LCD actually be better?

Hi,

The difference, other than the displays, is you will need to use an unmodified floppy power cable along with the usb cable to power up the MX5 display. Since you are going to use fans and cathode lights, you are going to need the extra power anyways.

The major advantage a LCD has over a VFD is that it is less expensive, other than that, it is a matter of preference.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Hello, yes, the only difference is the display (VFD vs LCD), therefore, the LCD (MX422) would be less expensive for your needs.

What about the CCFL's? I have seen some say that they can be plugged into the GPO's and others have said the inverter need to be plugged in.

Will they control the CCFLs or not?

I think I have changed my mind and going with the 412 with buttons.....

Hi Mikie,

You will need an inverter to get the CCFLs to work. Most CCFLs come with inverters already. CCFLs require AC power, so the inverter is to convert the DC PWM output of the GPO to an AC signal to power up the CCFL properly. You will be able to control the CCFL with the GPO.

Thanks for clearing that up. Since I only have two CCFL's and a dual inverter that will leave several more open.

I am going to buy.

Thanks
