GLK12232-25-SM interfacing with a BX-24

I'm trying to interface this MO display using the COM3 port on the BX-24. The transmission to the the display seems to be working fine since I can get stuff to display on the screen. But as soon as I connect the Tx line from the display to the defined Rx pin of the BX-24 the display goes blank. What could be the problem ?

Do you have a ground line on your communication line?
