...sure I am making the right purchase. I am pretty sure I want the VFD instead of the LCD. The VFD characters are brighter and stand out more the the LCD displays. The LCD backgrounds stand out more the the charactersdo and I dont really like that. Anways,... from all the different MX models the only real differences are,... silver with buttons, black with buttons, silver without buttons, and black without buttons. Right? Now , about the buttons,... are they really needed? I'm thinking no. They are basically a convinence? Now,... I am having trouble trying to figure out what the colors are of the characters for each model. I know there are filters to change the colors. I want green characters. Do any of those models come with green characters? I see a teal model, I think. Also,... do I need to get the indicator LED bus or can I just make my own? Thanks.

Hello, the MX series units are different in display color selection, size(20x2 or 20x4), overlay color selection (beige/black/alum.) and keypad overlay options (with or without buttons). The button choice will depend on your application.....if you would like to use the buttons to easily scroll, change display, etc., then they would be a convenient accessory to have.

The filter that will give you the green characters is the green filter(see link):

The LED bus is an accessory for purchase convenience. I do not see why you could not make one yourself if you are so inclined to do so.

I hope I was able to answer your questions. Please feel free to contact me if you require additional information.

Enjoy your unit.
Regards,
Bernadine

Thanks. I had already called for the information I was looking for and had made my purchase too. I got the MX514, internal usb cable, and 4 dallas temp probes. I was told the the 514 was kinda green and bright so I went with it. I am going to be working with alot of uv green acrylic and I was thinking I might put the VFD behind a uv green panel which would turn the characters nice green. I will do that as long as the characters very legible. If not then I will get the green filter.

Does anyone know if running 2 fans off of 1 fan header will effect the rpm reading of that header? I ran two 80mm's off of 1 header on an Areocool Gatewatch and the rpm reading was very erratic,... jumping all the way from 200 to about the normal rpm max. Will the MX series do the same? I wish they came with 6 fan headers:(
