lcdtesterinstaller fails on debian?

Post by Dormouse »

Thanks for providing a linux distribution for lcdtester... it looks like a cool program, but the installer isn't quite as robust as it's obviously designed to be. Either that or I'm just missing something...

I ran it on my Debian system (which is fairly up-to-date, including a 1.4 JDK) and the installer complained that it couldn't connect to the sun microsystems site, nor could it find my java directory (even though I had JAVA_HOME set properly). And then when it got finished failing, it deleted itself! (what?!?) Is there any way to keep it from "overreaching" and just unpack its files to a directory in /usr/local? It would be cool if it didn't try to download a new JDK for me, didn't depend on RPM (Debian uses dpkg not rpm of course), and generally just wasn't as complex as it is. Just my $0.02.

But like I said, I really appreciate the effort.

LCDInstaller under Fedora

Post by dthagard »

Having the same problem with Fedora Core 1..... lcdinstaller fails unless to see java home and also deletes itself when the install fails (of course, the RPM werks just fine ;) I fixed the first problem by copying the lcdinstaller to the java directory (!!! definitely not-cool workaround) and it appeared to install correctly, although when I attempt to run the tester it errors out saying that "Java Serial Interface is not installed in this system" I was just curious if you had found a resolution to your problem....

Nope, it's junk

Nope, I gave up, because noone from matrix orbital ever replied ("Hello hello hello... echo echo echo...." :-? ). And I don't have time/inclination to reverse-engineer the thing... if there were source code supplied or if the installer followed some more-normal paradigm then I might have, but no.

Sorry for the long delay...LCDTester when first developed, was run under Linux as an experimental basis only. As you can see the amount of problems you run into when trying to install this software. As it stands, we will not develop the Linux side of things currently...we are in the talks of some alternatives, ie: source code...Something like this talks time to develop and think about, so once again I apologize for the long delay and we will keep you posted!! :D
