I'm currently planning a mod for my PC case, and I figured a LCD displaying Winamp info would rock. I've done some research and some searching for decent LCDs, and I've come to this conclusion: there is more to running an LCD than I imagined.
So, let's start with what I need, and could you guys tell me if it will work? I need a blue background, white text 20x4 serial character LCD with a USB interface - specifically to my internal motherboard USB connector.
I've looked throughout the Matrix Orbital site, and I found the LK204-24-USB-WB which uses the USB connection.
However, I have a few questions. Apart from where I am putting it, is installing one of these LCDs difficult? Will it require me to solder anything, will I need to do some wiring other than plugging in the USB? Also, the program I wish to use is [ulr='http://www.markuszehnder.ch/projects/lc ... /index.php']this one[/url] and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this program or knows a better one to use?
Thanks for any help. Please don't get too technical on me... I know my way around a computer, but asking me to follow an electrical diagram of an LCD is like asking President Bush to say a whole sentance in one go.
