MX2 - removing link 2

Post by pbellham »

Recently received my MX2 and would like to power from the floppy connector.
I think that I have identified links 1 and 2 - they are little things with what looks like 000 on them? Looks like 000 with my magnifying glass - are they 0 value resistors?
Very nervous about taking a soldering iron to the board - I am a coder not a hardware guru. Is there any other way - could the link be physically cut?
Appreciate any advice anyone has to offer.
:-?

I too am a coder and have never use a soldering iron before. It was really easy to remove the jumper to allow power from the floppy connector, even for a total novice like me. All you need is a pair of long tweasers ( i used to grip the bridge between the points and remove it as the solder softened) and a soldering iron (of course) and a steady hand!
I prefer to have a bottle in front of me than a full frontal Labotomy!

Sorry about the confusion...we are in the process of updating the manual. The resistors on jumper 1 and 2 are indeed 0 ohms and they act as a fuse. If you want to power the unit via the floppy connector, all that is required is that you attach it to the white 4 pin connector. No modifications are necessary.

Johnny - thanks for your encouragement.

Miles - that is really good news. Tonight I can just connect it all together. Shows the value of the forum.
