Is there a limit on the # of displays you can have?

Post by Micahb »

Hey guys,

I'm looking at setting up a multizone audio PC which will be controlled via X10 keypads and I'm thinking of using LCDs to display track info, zone info and possibly other info.

My question is whether I can have 5 USB LCDs all running at the same time and displaying different info.

To clarify, the LCD in Zone 1 would display the track title currently playing in Zone 1 while Zone 2 displays whatever music is playing in that particular zone.

I already know I can have multpile instances of Winamp running, one instance for each zone/soundcard. Now it's just a matter of figuring out how to display the important info.

You can easily have 5 diferent USB's running at the same time, each being controlled individually. This is possible due to he virtual com port being designated to each display. So when you want to communicate to a specific display, that com port must be accessed!! :)

Right on, just what I was hoping to hear.

Next question then. Knowing I can have multiple displays with different information on each, can I run a seperate instance of the LCDC software for each display or is that even necessary for each display to update its info in real time?

Also, because I'm looking to run a seperate instance of WinAmp for each zone, will LCDC be able to distinguish between each copy of WinAmp running?

Yes you can run seperate instances of LCDC to each display...each display will have a different com port...set up LCDC to access each individual com port and your good to go!! :D :D

This is a question for Matt...
