Visual guide on connecting CCFL's at Bit-Tech.net

Post by Johnny »

Connecting a CCFL at bit-tech:

http://www.bit-tech.net/article/48/3

This one has images but I'm still not clear, do you bypass the inverter and connect the CCFL directly to the GPOs? as i cant see an inverter in these pictures, or is it built in the CFL they are using?

Are you guys on holiday?

The cc invertor accepts 12v in which when the lcd has 12v gpos you can use them.

Johnny,

In reply to your PM-question (I can't seem to reply to you, the system doesn't recognize "Johnny?" as a username, perhaps because of the ?) :

Nope, I haven't connected CCFLs to a display, so I can't help you with that... But Mat's answer might be helpful... :)

Thanks mat and VJ. The inverter is one of the standard blue ones. So i guess i can cut the plug to the inverter and make the connection to the GPO, thanks guys.

Might try it tonite.

The display in that guide is the LK204-25-PC, a discontinued product. The unit had 8 12V GPO's so you could connect the CCFL inverter directly to the output (and as Mat said, make sure you have the polarity correct, I have fried a few GPO's myself). The only other units that have High Power GPO's are the USB units, so you can connect the CCFL directly to the display there, if you connect the CCFL to a low power GPO you stand a good chance of killing something.

Will this require desoldering the jumpers 2 and soldering jumper 1 mentioned and attaching the PSU power cable to the header or is that only so that the case fans, etc, start as soon as power is switched on?

I'm planning to use the internal cable which i have already ordered, but... Will the USB be enough to power all my cfls and fans without carrying out any soldering?? I apologise about all my questions but im not very electronically minded. :D
