In that case, do you know if parallel displays such as the AL204A are capable of additional custom characters?

On my LK204-25 display, I'd like to use a horizontal bar graph, regular one-line text, and also medium size numbers all at the same time. This requires 14 custom characters, spanning two memory banks.
