From what your explaining to me it sounds like a baud rate problem. Try using our demo software and communicate at 19200 buad (defaullt).
This is the problem, however not a misconfiguration. J1 and J2 are "On" (shorted) but I can only get software (LCD Tester 1.0, LCD Smartie, custom code, etc ...

By demo software do you mean LCD Tester? I tried that and selected the module type correctly and ran at 19200 baud on COM1 and it produced the same results. J1 and J2 are both closed which should put me at 19200. I will check to make sure the max rate on the COM port is at least 19200 in the control ...
