GX no text but has backlight

Hi,
got this new GX tricolor today.

I followed the soft install procedure

Backlight is on
Text or welcome screen not visible

Device manager in XP shows device code error (10)

Also device manager shows as error in "composite device" list like a red circle

I tried select manual install options, says driver cannot be found in MO driver dir.

I tried manual install and selected USB composite device in windows dir, no go

I tried new install, no go

Am I doing it wrong ?

regards,
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

The drivercore install will hold the drivers required for your GX, when complete they'll be saved in the Matrix Orbital DriverCore\Drivers folder. As you can see, there isn't much to the installation, if you follow the instructions step by step.

If you are having trouble, try uninstalling DriverCore, unplugging your display, reinstalling DriverCore, and then plugging the unit back in. Also, if you can, try to troubleshoot with a different cable and/or computer.

If the GX configuration utility can see the display at all, and try changing the contrast if it is somehow too low. Should you continue to have trouble, let us know what the effects are of the above.

Thanks,
~Troy

Hi Troy,
just to confirm are all the headers without jumpers ?

I'm thinking maybe a jumper link fell off one of the pins

Tried 2 more pc's, no go

3 cables test OK

um, windows detects no prob, but composite device has a yellow ! in device manager and error code :

MICROSOFT says:
If a device is unknown (usually because of missing drivers), the device has a yellow question mark next to it.
"cannot start device code (10)"

Here's whats in the drivers folder files: path(C:/program files/MO DriveCore/drivers)
gx_fwu.cat
gx_fwu.inf
gx_irbus.inf
gx_lcd.cat
gx_lcd.inf
gx2_lcd.cat
gx2_lcd.inf
WdfColnstaller01007.dll
WinUSBCoInstaller.dll

9 files total
=========

I'm a little bit competent with electronics, is there any voltages I can test for or check data signals

I'm thinking if I could pull it apart, measure to see what components may be faulty ????

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Hi Adrian,

Just to confirm quickly before any jumpers get added, no jumpers are required on the GX. The fact that the display is detected is hopeful and we'll be taking a closer look here today.

When you right click the device in the device manger, go to properties, details tab and look at the Hardware Ids, is anything listed there?

That's looking hopefull!! By the looks of it the hardware is fine, looks like a driver issue. I'll hook you up with some pre-release drivers when i get back to the office tomorrow morning and see if that improves things.
