if you just plug the LCD in with no serial cable, will the contrast fade over time?

I put a switch in the +5V power cord. If i push the buttom the power doesn't go, buy if i don't push it goes.
Well when i power on my computer the lcd don't show the logo. If i push the switch some times (three, four or five normally) the lcd displays the logo and my LCDC program works very well.
I'm happy for my display works but i don't like the solution.
Can you explain me the problem? Can you send me a solution more proffesional?
Thanks and excuse me for my english.

It could be a variety of issues:
a) Is the ground properly grounded to your power supply?
b) Are you getting 5 volts at the display?
c) How big are your wires when you built the power cable?
d) What actually might be running your display is leakage current coming down one of the data lines.
