I contacted Matrix Oribtal via e-mail to ask about their 4BR option available on several of their bay products. Thanks Adam for your quick response!

I was disappointed to hear that there is no -4BR option available for their BVF2041-BK 4 line vacuum display. Questions:

1. Does anyone at Matrix anticipate release of such a product?
2. Are there any "stock" parts available that will allow me to do the same thing, i.e. have a PCI bracket instead of direct connect by serial cable?
3. What have others done in a similar situation?

Thanks for all of your help and I apologize if this has been addressed 52 times already. If it has, can someone provide link to existing thread?

EDIT: OK Im a stooge, part number should have been -4BR...

You can just make a hole in a spare bay cover and use two serial cables with a normal display; i.e. run one cable to the cover from the lcd, then the other from the cover to your serial port. Covers with a hole for a standard 9pin D connector in them aren't hard to find (I've got several spares!) and I'm sur eif you wander into any computer shop they'll give you one for next to nothing

Also some cases have serial port holes to push out in the frame, if your's has you can use this hole and two cables...

Or... you can buy a 4BR cable (and a normal serial too) and lop the head off the 4BR cable and solder a 9-pin D connector on to it.

Or... you can buy two serial cables (same plan as before) AND buy a 4BR cable and nick the slot cover with the serial port hole in it from the 4BR cable.

Great ideas all of them, I think Im tempted to purchase the 4BR cable just for the bracket (I live in California, nothing is for free here), then use two serial cables, one from LCD to bracket, one from bracket to serial port.

I dont do soldering, Im a manual klutz. Funny as I am picking up case modding as a hobby...

Case will be a Lian Li PC-61, no extra cutouts (as far as I know), that was a dandy of an idea... Thanks again for the advice, Im looking forward to getting all of this put together

They're not very good for putting a serial connector in place of the 4BR connector on a 4BR cable though... you'd have to put the cables in the right crimping slots which is fiddly.

So it doesn't really solve the 'no slot cover with a serial plug hole in it' problem

what does the the slot cover looks like when u nick the 4BR part?

is it just like a male/female db9 adapter in a slot cover?

It looks just like the old school AT serial port in a slot cover.

The DB9 part is removable, it doesn't stay behind in the slot cover.
