I have been brainstorming a project for awhile, but I haven't decided the best way to put it all together. I want to build a dedicated .mp3/DVD computer. It will be part of my entertainment center so it will be connected to my receiver and my TV. The TV would be connected by the TV/Out on my video card and be used as the primary monitor. I want to include an LCD panel or a small flat screen monitor in the front of the case to use as a secondary monitor. This monitor would show menus and playlists that I could use to select either songs or movies. It would also display track info while the file was playing. Having this second monitor would allow me to select/listen to .mp3s without using the TV. Also, I would prefer that when a movie is playing on the TV that it would not appear on the secondary monitor. Here is the catch. I want to be able to control the whole system by remote control. That means that I would need to be able to navigate through the menus and playlists that appear on the secondary monitor with the remote. I have been looking at the IRMAN remote system and it looks promising, but I don't know what is out there as far as software and hardware combinations to make this thing work. If I used two video cards (1 to the TV, 1 to the second monitor) would they always display the same signal simultaneously??...or could I get one to display the movie on the TV and one to show the menus/playlist/info on the second monitor? I know that there are LCDs available that run off of a serial port. Could I make that work, and if so, could I navigate it with a remote??
I know this is a strange post, but I am just looking for any additional info, suggestions, links, or other help you might be able to provide. Thanks for taking a look.

LCDC has a great IR plugin which will let you control programs like winamp... though at the moment it's not capable of the directory browsing etc. that you'd need for an mp3 box (should be added one day though!). Some other LCD software lets you do this though (LCD Center has am LCD menu system), so you could combine the two
