New GTT480272A firmware has been released:
Changelog from R1.0.2.3066
* Increase of performance using the new file system access commands
* Unicode and UTF8 support permits international characters
* Hardware up-scaling allows the GTT to display large, low-res images quickly

While upgrading has been fun, the GTT is stable and quite a bit quicker now, so you won't need to be checking in here as often.
