I am embarking on a small business project to create and sell "modded" computers. The computers will also exist in a gaming tournament business. Each mod has to be a standard feature that will be placed on many machines, so the time to do each mod must be short.

Are there any general words of wisdom out there before I do this? I am interested in the PC bay inserts but I was wondering if there is a reason why all of the inserts use the text -- as opposed to graphics -- display? Is it harder to get the proper software drivers working with the graphics display? I was thinking of a graphics logo on boot up... is that a possibility?

Sorry to sound a little lame, but this is my first look into a display mod, and I am unable to spend a lot of time in research for this one item. Thanks for any insight from the veterans out there!

I just ordered a BLK202A PC insert kit to start my research into these devices, but I am still interested in getting advice for the best way to proceed with my particular application.

The GLK-12232-25-wbl graphic LCD fits in the double bay insert fine... and also uploading a custom bitmap to be shown on power up until windows software takes over is very easy (the image can be uploaded using mogd.exe - see the downloads section of the main site).

As for driving software, it's true there is less of it for the graphics - and currently the only real app for display gaming scores (LCD Smartie) doesn't support graphic LCD's (and also runs terribly in Win XP). There might be an LCD Driver addon for gaming scores (?)... though I'm not sure. Anyway you should be able to make Smartie work with the 202 you've purchased.

The best software to date (for graphics or alphanumeric displays) is by far LCDC... a pic of it running on one of my graphics,



Very impressive indeed... the author (mat-d-rat, see the LCDC thread in the software forum on these boards) may well add gaming support if there's a proven demand,it might be worth talking to him (he's a nice chap).

Also the 202 winging it's way to you can display a custom message on startup, though I don't think you can predefine it's 8 custom characters on start up so a logo might be tricky, not really had a play though so I could be wrong

Thanks CheeseMan! I will certainly experiment with the graphic display after I get my feet wet on the standard alpha-numeric. Your answer was exactly the kind of push I needed.
