LK204-25 ver. 2.0 I2C Communication Problem

I've just purchased the LK204-25 ver 2.0 and I'm trying to communicate to the display over the I2C port but it doesn't want to communicate. I've got some older 1.23 version boards that do work when I change the address to 0x50 (to match the ver 2.0's default).

I've tried setting the ver 2.0 displays address to 0x50 just in case it changed for some reason and I've also made sure to change the jumpers to the I2C as well.

We also tried just making a simple program which would clear the display and turn off the backlight but that too didn't work.

Any thoghts or help would be great.

Thanks,

Jason

Hello Jason,

Thank you for posting on the forum.

Can you please tell me if your board has a crystal on? Or, can you tell me the full part number instead? Better yet, if you can post a picture of the module then you do not have to answer the first two questions.

Have you tried communicating with the board via RS232 first in order to know that the module is not bad (by any chance)?

By the things you have done, it looks like you should be able to communicate via I2C. If you can also, place the manual override jump, just to doubly make sure that the address of the module is set at 0x50.

The serial # for one of the 2 new displays is 06m06-2016. I've tried both new v2.0 displays and neither work.

I'm not sure if their is a crystal....I'll check and reply if the serial # is no good for you.

I do not see a crystal, I do see pads directly above the 4 sided pinned "ATMEGA" chip. Is that where the crystal would be located?

Hi Jason,

I was hoping for something like LK204-25.. if you can post a picture, most of my questions should be answered.

Thanks

Ok,

I'll get you a picture tomorrow.

Just so you are aware, on the back of the display, their is a LK204-25 a VK204-25 and PK205-25. None of the boxes are checked.

On the actual box that it came in, the label says LK 204-25.

I've got the picture, however, our network security will not allow me to upload a picture to the site. Do you have an e-mail I can send the picture to?
