LED indicator DIY I have LEDS whats the difference

I have and mx412 and mx212 and was wondering about the indicator bus I have tons of leds and basically is there any difference in me just wiring them up myself. I own a laser engraver and can laser cut and engrave my own led enclosures etc. in the side window and engrave a mail letter frosted in front of it etc.

I notice the LED bus interfaces in LCDC and it recognizes it as such. Is the display "smart" and knows this and is it because of the snapped of header second from right on the bottom of the low power gpo's.

the gpo has 10pin header so are the the left 3 pairs the only powered gpo's besides the high powered ones.

I havent got into my gpos and fans but I am starting now.

also can I use the right 2 sets for anything DIY as far as a led or contactor/relay?

so if I do it myself LEDS I will have to label the gpo's as indicators correct?

thanks

Hi ghost2501,

You can use your own leds to create your own indicator bus. We made the indicator bus for the convenience of not having to wire things up yourself, but you are up for the wiring.

The left 3 pairs are for controlling the low power gpos. (5V 20mA) The right pair is only power and ground. This is optional power for any other 5 V devices. The D1Y devices can only be used in the D1Y inputs. Placing on the right pair won't do anything but power them. You won't be able to exchange any data. If you want to use a relay, you can use either the high power gpos or the low power gpos.

I hope this explaination helps you out. Good luck on with your mx units.

Best Regards,

Basically I am thinking I can just hook up 5v led's straight to the gpo's I have an older display without 3 wire high powered gpos so I will use all 6 gpo's on this display for led's.

Also If I wanted to hook up 3.3v leds or something lower than 5v is it ok to solder a resistor to make that possible.

I dont know which or both ways are correct or if I have some additional things I need to do.

basically if I am going to hook up 3.3v to 5v leds I dont have to worry about amps or whatever since an led most likley will never go over the suggested amps?

Hi Ghost,

I think I got to your LED question over here. As a result, your won't need any external amps; transistors are built into our display board for that purpose. We like to keep things as easy as we can so all those developers out there can use their creative genius elsewhere  .

Thanks,
