GLK24064-25 is this the best

...or is it just the biggest! I'm moving onto my second MO screen, having had my LCD2041 for a few years.. I've got a few questions before I decide...

I want to be able to use LCDC - does this screen fully utilise this? Am I going to be missing out on the benefits from VFD's?
Does LCDC take advantage of VFD's or do you generally have to create your own graphics?
Why doesn't this screen come with USB connectivety? Or am I wrong? I would like to move away from serial.. Although I see there is now complete cable sets inc power - could save time rewiring a cat5 cable like I did last time! What would be the best and tidiest way to cable this one?

Well any feedback will be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Bevwan,

It is possible to use the GLK24064-25, but it is not recommended for LCDC. Graphics and alphanumeric displays are two different units. You will need to create and load your own graphics and fonts for graphics displays. Additional fonts can be downloaded at http://www.matrixorbital.ca/software/GLK_fonts/

Alphanumerics utilize a built in character font table. The logos and such for alphanumerics are used by the 8 provided custom characters. LCDC was designed for more the alphanumeric displays.

The graphics are usable, but you will only be able to send text to the display. If you would like to use an alphanumeric display at that size, then I would recommend using the LK404-55. This is a 4 line 40 character display alphanumeric display. If you would like detailed information on the LK404-55, you can refer to the manual at http://www.matrixorbital.ca/manuals/LK_series/LK404-55/

If you have anymore questions or concerns, please feel free to post them.

Best Regards,

Thanks

Hey Tom,

Thanks for the advice... Still a little unsure! Don't think I'll get the GLK24064-25 now. I'll carry on looking.
