I have a MX412 with 6 temp probes. When I ordered it I was thinkng the probes were flot with adehsive to secure them to what I want to measure, whichis not the case. How do you recommned securing the probes to the items i want to monitor?

I know on the CPU you dont connect it directly to the cpu, what is the recommended way to monitor the CPU temp and the temp of graphics cards?

Hi dsm1217,

Thank you for posting on the forum. To secure a temp probe to a device you want to monitor, you may want to use some type of glue. Some people use epoxy to attach the probes.

The best way to monitor CPU temperature is probably using the internal temp probes that are part of your gpu and cpu. You can use some monitoring software inconjunction with the plugins in lcdc to display the information. You can use speedfan which is found at http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php or hardware sensing monitor at http://www.hmonitor.com/ The plugins for lcdc can be downloaded at http://www.lcdc.cc/downloads.htm

I hope this information is significant help for you.

If you have anymore questions or concerns, please feel free to post.

I thought that the point of the temp probes was to get a more accurate temp reading than most boards can provide? Also how would I glue the probes to the graphics cards? By that I mean where is the most appropriate spot to place them?

dsm1217,

If you wanted to monitor the temperature of your gpu or cpu, then you would want to glue the probe to the heat sink or somewhere you feel will give you good indication of how your cpur or gpu is doing.

We don't specify that the point of having the temp probes was to get a more accurate temperature probe that most boards provide. People do use the probes for cpu temperatures, but they are for any application seems fit for them.

If you have anymore questions or concerns, please feel free to post them.

I just got my MX4, very inmpressed with the delivery time ! (ordered thursday, got to mein uk monday morning)

I ordered 6 temp prbes, expecting a flat type, that i could mount under the cpu die, and gpu etc.
Is there no prob available that is flat ? And what benefit is there from the diy probe ? I read about them, but didnt quite get the point

What would happen if i spliced in a flat probe to the supplied probes plug ?

Sry for the hijack

We use FedEx or UPS for delivery, so they are pretty reliable.

Unfortunately, we currently don't have any probes flatter than what is provided. It is so beneficial to use dallas 1-wire probes is because they are strickly digital inputs, and they have higher accuracy. Normal temperature probes are analog inputs, so an analog to digital converter is required. You will then need to do temperature converstions because normal temperature probes are measured in degrees kelvin. This explaination answers your question, so it is not possible to splice one of your flat probes with a supplied dallas 1-wire probe.

If you have anymore questions or concerns, please feel free to post them.

I have to say the probes are the only real disapointment with these VFD's
They are expensive and to impracticable for internal PC use unless yo uare just measuring the internal case temps, infact these probes would probably be uses by doctors for gathering colonic readings

I have a flat probe on my built into my X-Qpack Case it gives me CPU readings of 47 and the Matrix digital probe which is pressed up against the side of the Heatsink gives me 43.7 so not really that much difference, well not enough for you to missjudge the temps and kill your system :o
