MX5, GPOs, 5v vs 12v. can I get both voltages out of GPOs?

Ok, so I have an MX5, previously used and MX2, and I understand about the floppy cable, the jumper, and whatnot. But I didn't see any metion in the MX5 documentation about which GPOs stay at 5V with the jumper in the High GPO position?

I would like to use a couple 12v devices (all under 1000mA right?) and a couple 5V devices (same 1000 per limit?).

Are the top 3 GPOs always 5V, or do they all switch to 12V with the jumper in High?

The high power GPOs can either be 5V or 12V depending on the position of the jumper. Placing the jumper on the very left two pins is setting the GPOs above the jumper to 12V, and placing the jumper into the two right pins is setting them on 5V. The maximum current output will be the same, which is 1000mA. You need the unmodified floppy power connection to be able to use the high power GPOs though, and you can only have one or the other voltage.

OK, maybe I just run my LEDs in series for 12V load.

Is there a reason you changed that between the MX2s and the MX5s?

Was everyone just screaming for more 12V load?

There was no change for the MX5 and MX2 GPO, only more high power GPOs. The high power GPO was made to allow more option for running high power 5V or 12V.

The only reason the MX5 needs the unmodified floppy cable because the 4x20 VFD needed the extra power.

You can still run your leds on the low power GPO which is 5V and maximum of 20mA, that is if your LED's take 20mA. We even sell an LED bus that will fit really well on the low power GPO. You can check it out at http://www.matrixorbital.com/pages/acce ... sp?CatID=2. That way you can have both 12V high power devices and 5V low power devices used simultaneously.

I hope that answers your questions.

I guess I hadn't read the manual PDF well enough...the GPOs 567 are always 5V, regardless of the floppy connector or Jumper right?

Sorry, I thought I had read over all that, and came up short.

So I can run any 12V high draw needs up to 1000mA on the Fan header/Advanced GPOs, and then LEDs 5V stuff on 5,6,7.

Sorry, I somehow read that section to say ALL GPOs, including 5,6,7 would become 12V, thus eliminating having both voltage at the same time.

Thanks for pointing that out Tom.

Correct, GPOs 567 are always 5V 20mA, regardless of the floppy connector or jumper position.

You can run any 12V up 1000mA device on the Fan header/Advanced GPOs, and you can run the LEDs on GPO 5,6, and 7.

That is great everything is clear for you now, and if you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask.

you guys are great...support here is excellent.

When I get the MX5 all mounted and running in my Lubic case I will post up some gallery pics.

Thanks again Tom.
