power concerns

I'm wanting to hook many things up to my mx2 (rev 1) gpos. i want to make sure i don't blow it up. i have lots of ideas in my mind so forgive me if i tend to ramble. I have only a basic understanding of electronics so i don't even know what i need to mesure to watch out for, volts, amp, etc.
one thing i'm thinking of is to run a low power gpo on to a relay, that connects to a 12v power bus i have. from that i would power 2 ccfl inveters, 1 el wire inverter, 1 el tape inverter and a string of leds. i currently have this relay laying aroundhttp://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/c ... type=store. would it work? i don't have a problem buying something else though.
i'd probably have a few leds on the other gpos, maybe another relay set up to switch another string of leds powered by 12v.
i could use a high power gpo to the power bus, but i'd rather not have to run another cable though.
I'd appreciate any advice you can give. thanks.
