LCD2041-IY problem

I recently purchased 2 x LCD2041-IYs. I've been using one for a while now.... Today, when testing the unit out (writing my own software), it started giving me junk on the screen.
I tried all the baud rates, and for some reason, it only seems to be working on 1200 baud. I tried changing the serial jumpers to various settings, but it only works at 1200. It was working fine at 19200 a day or 2 ago.
I'm not sure if something shorted the serial jumpers or something to cause the unit to switch permanently to 1200 baud. Do I need to replace / repair the unit, or there any way via software to get it functional again?
I notice that the circuit is detachable from the actual LCD display... would I be able to get a new circuit shipped to me if the existing circuit is faulty?
Thanks.
