Matrix Orbital Corp

Hello,

I'm looking for an LCD display for my HTPC, and thought I'd look at Matrix Orbital since they come highly recommended! Here's what I'm looking for:

- 20x4 display
- Serial connection (all the USB headers on my mobo are already in use)
- Fit into one 5.25" external drive bay
- Plain black bezel/faceplate (no keypad functions)

Will any of the 20x4 displays fit in one 5.25" bay, or do only 20x2 displays fit? I've looked around the site, and I really like the GLK12232-25-SM. Would this work for me? I'm also unsure of what accessories I would need. I'd like to display the internal PC temperature, so I guess I'd need to connect temp. sensors. Any advice you can give is welcome!

Hello Xiggy, for serial interface 5.25" bay insert you may want to look at the BLC2041 (see links below):

Unfortunately this unit is not modified to monitor temp. control(temp probe accessories) but you could use LCDC software with MBM (MotherBoard Monitoring).

The only units with temp options(connectors) are the MX series units which are all USB but...... all MX units are serial to USB converted and do have a the option to communicate in (serial) TLL (see manual for detail). If you are inclined to do so you could also convert back to (serial) RS232 from your end.

The GLK12232-25-SM could work in a 5.25" bay but we do not offer a bay insert so it would be your responsiblilty for the modding. And this unit also is not designed for temp control/accesories unless you use LCDC/MBM as mentioned above.
