Hello all,
I am looking to build an MP3 box for my car but I am wondering what is the best display go use, LCD or VFD... I know VFD's back light has a shorter life span but it can be filtered against glare. I would like to have a color other then green on black... and ideas or recomendations?

Thanks, Timmay! :D

Your mileage may vary of course, but the few VFD's I've seen in direct sunlight were horrid, couldn't see a thing.

Hello, many of customers have used VFD units for car/vehical/outdoor applications. The VFD's can be a great fit for direct sunlight application becasue for the 180 degree veiwing angles and the option to filter out direct sunlight with different color (filter) accessories:

A VFD with no filter will wash out and look horrible in direct sunlight. A LCD will not suffer from this at all. But the VFD will have a much higher viewing angle than a LCD will, and will not be affected by heat or cold as much as a LCD will. Most modern cars, like Jeep Grand Cherokee uses VFDs for the information panel, for temps, time , fuel and so on.
