I'm very dumb

Post by Meurig »

I know, I've readd all the warnings, and I still managed it:- I plugged my LK204 into the standard floppy power lead instead of the modded one :(

The screen is not completely dead - I get a flashing cursor, but it completely refuses to communicate with the serial port, so I'm guessing I've managed to fry something quite important...

It's out of warranty, but any ideas of how I could fix it? I've got pretty good soldering skills and some knowledge of electronics, but besides shortcutting the voltage regulation by inputting 5v through pin 9 of the serial (after shorting the jumper) with no more joy, I'm lost.

Any ideas of what I should try? Or are there any options to have it repaired proffessionally? you can probably tell, I'm fairly desperate, aswell as uber dumb.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

If power if applied and you have a blinking cursor, this is a very good thing. This indicates two things, your display driver and PIC are ALVIVE and well. As for problem communicating to the display, I would guess that you fried the SIPEX232 (RS232 driver) chip...If you would like you can send it back to me and I can repair it, however you will have to pay for shipping in both directions and for the part...Let me know what you would like to do... :(
