I am interested in buying a LCD and plugging it into my Windows PC (
http://www.overclockers.com.au/pcdb/vie ... nFearbyAUS).
Is anyone else talking to their LCD with anything other than Linux?
Are people useing power from the serila port or from an external pack?
Is is easy to sent text to the screen via a COM port?

Oh yes. IF you go to the "customer apps" section of
http://www.matrix-orbital.com you'll see a selection of Windoze software that's well tested. I know that LCDriver works with XP at least, and I'm pretty sure that LCDCenter 2 will since it uses an external library to communicate with the serial port.
As to it being easy to write text, yes, hyperterminal will do the trick. But both these progs will do more, monitor system stats and feed them to the LCD and a lot more really.
If anything, it's easier to deal with an LCD under Windoze than under Lunix.
(Just my two pesos, not speaking for Matrix Orbital)
