Can't get 12232-SM to work

I received my 12232-SM a couple of days ago. It's powered using a standard floppy power cable. However, I can't get it to work. It just displays the "Graphics in any direction" logo. No response whatsoever to the commands I send to it.

I use the 4BR serial cable (ordered along with the display) to connect to the serial port. It seems strange to me that the cable connects the display's TX to the PC's TX pin. However, tech support (in response to other postings in this forum) states clearly that the cable should be usable as-is.

This was done on an EPIA-M 6000 motherboard. Rumor has it that at least some EPIAs have weird COM ports, so I connected the RS232 connector to my Dell laptop instead. Also, the Dell has Windows on it, so I was able to try MOGD.

I still can't get any response at all, not even backlight on/off using MOGD. However, when I connect the display to the Dell laptop, the splash screen goes away. :eyebrow:

I've tried resetting the speed to 19200 baud (using a jumper on keypad pins 5 & 6), but it does not make any difference.

What am I doing wrong?

Best regards,

OK, 4BR cable needs rewiring to work with 12232-25-SM

Hi again,

in response to my own message:

I just tried re-wiring the 4BR cable provided with my 12232-25-SM display. As I wrote in my previous message, it seemed strange to connect TX to TX and RX to RX, so I switched the wires.

It works now! My problem with the display is solved. :D

But shouldn't this be stated somewhere in the documentation? Or was the cable wrong in the first place?

Best regards,

The cables used with our displays are straight through, not null modem...the cable you received was probably a 4BR cable that is used on some of our other models with the Rx and Tx lines switched...Sorry about any confusion!! I hope you enjoy the display! :D :D
