wierd characters

I just got my screen back from Matrix Orbital. When it powers up the firts pic comes on no prob. As soon as I start MODG the screen writes a small wierd characters over the pic in the top left corner. No mater what I do after that, weather it be clear the screen, turn off the backlight, or write a word to the screen, the screen just puts another wierd character in the upper left corner next to the last one.

Hello...

What unit do you have? What software program are you using to communicate with? Make sure you are communicating at the correct baud rate.

i run a GLK12322. I've tried running modg and lcdc. Niether of the programs is able to communicate.

Can you try these steps below and let me know how you make out:

1) Power off the unit.
2) Put a jumper on pins 6 & 7 of the keypad connector.
3) Power the display back on.
4) Make sure Mogd is set to 19200 and try turning the backlight off/on, contrast up/down, send text.
