2041 LCD Connection Problems

I recently purchased an LCD 2041 off of ebay and he included a serial cable that he himself made. Now the male end is for the LCD, but the other end is meant for the motherboard header connection stuff. And it fits on a 10x1 header. I only have two of those and they are both for USB headers that my motherboard included a PCI slot with extra USB's on them. Is there anyway to detect the device if installed on one of these headers? And if this explanation isn't understandable, then I shall post a picture if requested. I just wanna test her out before I finish my case modifications and reformat

. Need to get a feel for her.

No, the LCD is a serial one an does not have a USB chip on it, I suggest thowing the cable away and getting another (they are cheap).

Bleh

. I was already gonna buy a new one, I just wanted to tinker with it before I had case modifications done. Too bad, I'm sure the guy had it working, think I'll send him an email. But yeah, it's probably pointless since I'm getting stuff done by next week.

I've got some older motherboards that have internal headers (2 rows of 5 with 1 pin blocked) but most modern boards have them directly attached to the back of the MB or none at all

The other thing you could do is just get a 9pin din , remove the 10pin and then solder it onto that end.
