Powered by 3.5" floppy cable...

Post by jlhinrichs »

Before I make the changes to my LK204-24-USB to power by a floppy cable I want to make sure I solder jumper 1 and remove the jumper 2 correctly. On the picture I drew a red line to show were to create a jumper and at jumper 2 am I suppost to remove the bridge where I drew the line?

Thanks for your help! :)

If you have soldering capability and feel confortable doing it, all you need to do is unsolder the the blob of solder where the U is in picture #2... nothing else. If you don't feel confortable soldering you could leave it as is. Unsoldering the jumper in #2 is the proper way of doing it.

Henry, If I understand you correctly I don't have to do anything at jumper 1 and just remove the blob of solder below the U? I do have soldering capability, I just want to get this right and do it the proper way.

Suggestion: Update your picture and documentation in your manual to clearify this change.

Thanks!

I have the LK204-24-usb and it has a small component soldered to the border under the U instead of a blob of solder. What do I need to do to power my display with a floppy power cable?

Jarrod,

I carefully unsoldered the resistor (component) located below the U and checked with a meter to make sure it was a open connection.
That's the only change I made and everything works fine.

Henry, you make it sound like one could just plug the floppy power cable in and not do any soldering but it wouldn't be "the proper way of doing it." So what exactly is the difference that makes one way proper and the other way not proper? Does it change the behavior of the board at system power up or is it just a question of voltage coming in from two sources at once?

I agree with Jay. There is a need to update the manual. There are numerous inconsistencies and some things are not adequately explained. It appears as though a manual for another model was modified for this unit and some differences weren't caught. A better manual would answer a lot of questions before they get to the forum.

Thanks for your help.

There is a newer manual on the site now, been there for a week or so... the proper way is isolating the different power circuits... if you plugin the power cable there might bt a ground differention between your PSU ground and USB ground.
