USB Port Driver Game, yet again.

Post by rizu-chan »

I'm running Windows 2003 Server edition, and I've run into the same problems that most have - an error (service name already in use) while installing the USB Virtual Port drivers for my MX-212.

I uninstalled re-installed using the v 1.1 driver pack - didn't work.

Did the registry key song-and-dance, rebooted - didn't work.

Tryed to dl the program that was linked on the board, for USB driver cleanup, and found the link dead.

Any help, would be apreciated, or else I think I've just bought my self a VERY expensive nightlight. :(

U can edit the .INF Files and give the Virtual Comm driver a different name, thus getting round the normal problem... if that's the same prob we're referring to!!

It's 3 in the morning, and I'm going to give what you've written a try after I get some sleep, but I wanted to thank you. Really thankful for your help.

Thank you for your suport, I think I've got the problem licked. Although, something more irritating occured when I attempted to install LCDC - I was told the CD key that I had been sent was invalid.

*Sigh*

Today's just not my farkin' day, ya know?

Are you using the key off the eCD...? Enter your key as suggested in the quick install guide...and make sure you download the most recent version of LCDC...(1.05xx)

Hello all

Post by tiredman »

Ok. I've been having the same serial port driver problem as everyone else on XP.

I've tried the registry thing, reinstalling with the 1.1 drivers, I even (before I read it on this topic) tried to edit the INF files to make it use a different name. This last effort was to no avail because when I looked through the INF files I could not find where to change it. There were no direct references to 'USB Serial Port' which is how it shows up in the device manager. :x

I've tried everything but a complete reinstall of xp. I could try that but I have a feeling I'd end up in the same place.

I have already spent 2 days on this trying everything I could possibly think of. Please help.

Alright... everyone has been talking about these 1.1 drivers.. I would like to make a note that if you received a cd that has a zip file that indicates it has the 1.1 drivers on it.. they will NOT work. I tried the ones from: http://www.lcdforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1016
and those worked like a charm.

The only problem I have right now is that LCDC won't detect the display. I even tried the LCD Tester that MO provides. However it will not connect properly. When I was looking for a solution to the driver problem I did notice some problems of this fashion. I cannot now find those topics. Any references or ideas would be much appreciated.

In the device manager, what is the display listed as, under Ports and Universal Serial Devices...?
