LCD 2041-WB-V Getting Nothing

Post by dt »

It arrived.

I connected the power to one of the small leads off the HDD power supply, but changed the cabling so it is black at one end and red at the other, putting the black at the end so it would match up with the large GND marked on the back of the LCD panel.

Attached the DB9 M/F cable I got (RS-232 the little man in the store told me) it's branded as a "mouse/mono monitor ext."

Plug it all in and nothing, nada, blank screen, no funnt smells, no big bangs, no exploded chips, nothing, ran LCDC and when I search for the LCD it comes back as nothing.

What is the debug route, is there anyway to check that the COM port is even seeing it, how do I know what to do next.

Many thanks in advance for any input.

OK, Now I'm super confused.

I go to configure/test in LCDC and select:

Com1
9600
LCD2041
55% contrast

And hit test display.

It says:

Attempting to connect to COM1
Connection to COM1 successful
Resetting Contrast/Brightness

So I hit send selected to send L.C.D.C!!!! to the panel

it gives me the [sent] confirmation, but I see nothing.

:sigh:

OK, found the issue. And you guys need to look into adding something a little clearer for this.

I'm following the manual for my LCD, but I have the wide voltage one.

5v won't do it, it needs the 12v plugged in.

It actually says that in the manual, but not clearly and in small print. Just add it at the top in big red letters.

Thanks anyway, I'm off to play with this beast.

:D

your display is a 12v one ....

the " -V " in the name of your module specify wide voltage....
VFD2041-V -- System Status -- Internal
LK402-12-V -- MP3 Remote -- External
LCD2041-WB-V -- 2nd System Info -- Not installed

Didn't the display arrived with a sticker on the power connector which said something along the lines of '12V power only' on?

Hello...

The packing list should have labelled the unit as a "V" module indicating that it is wide voltage (7-15 Volts). Also included should have been a sticker on the 4 pin power connector that said "7-15 V Power Only".
