I was looking around for a new mobo, and found this...

http://developer.intel.com/design/motherbd/bt/index.htm

The board D845EBT, and includes onboard USB 2.0 and Firewire and get this....a second serial port with the pin headers on the mobo. No cables to route outside the case. Looks pretty sweet. Believe it or not Best Buy in the U.S. is using this board on their VPR Matrix PC, model 253.

Only one problem, no one online seems to sell them. Anybody have any sources?

Henry,

If I buy one of your bay mounts to use with this board, what cable(s) do I need to order?

hmmm... we do not have a cable made for an internal header like that... you would have to make one. Get a regular cable, got some headers, cut the end off, find Rx, Tx and GND pins on the header and connect them, good to go.

Thanks for the info Henry, but I have no skills in making cables, and have no idea where I could get the parts.

Any more info on specific parts and maybe where to start looking for info on how to put the cable together once I get everything together? Thanks in advance.

the manual is a good place to start...

all you need are those three wires... using old motherboard led headers is good to solder to...

I make my own.

I use a salvaged IDE cable (or any ribbon cable) cut down to 9 conductors. Then I get IDC connectors (insulation displacement connectors) from here and just use an ordinary bench vise to finish off the cable. If you don't need it very long, you may be able to salvage one from an AT case already made up.

Just use a standard two-row pin header IDC instead of the female DB9 I'm showing above.

Thanks for the info. The link you gave for parts is very helpful. If I can ever find the motherboard for sale, I will pull the trigger on my display and give it a shot. Thanks again.

Hey, no problemo, mi amigo.

Just fyi, there's usually a pin header on the board for a serial port on any FlexATX baord, and a lot of MicroATX. My ASUS CUSI-FX has it, it shouldn't be an extreme rarity.
