Is the LCD screen ONLY controlled by keypad or switches?

I was wondering if the information on the LCD screen is only provided when the keypad is being used or if switches are being used for GPO. I know everything is controlled by the software provided, but can I set it up so that information is automatically displayed when WinAmp is running, or do I have to open WinAmp then hit a switch/pad to get the WinAmp info on the LCD?

nope, thats software controlled also!
