cpu fan control with Mx series

Post by ghost2501 »

Hello

I was finnally getting around to switching my fans over to the my MX412 unit.

When does the unit power up the fans? if I hook up the cpu fan does it wait for windows or LCDC to load etc. for the fans to start spinning or do the fans start spinning when the light on the front of the unit powers up.

basically I was thinking if lcdc controls the fans it would at least have to be running. also I was thinking the unit may default run any fans full speed until lcdc starts.

does anyone else use their unit for cpu fan control.

Thanks for posting!

The fans will power on as soon as voltage is applied to the display. So in this case, the fans will power on, as soon as you turn on your PC. :)

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

I was wondering if I could have the display run the fans at 50% PWM while I power on the pc. I have it controlled in lcdc but if I turn off the pc and turn it back on the fans stay at 100% until lcdc actually starts up.

If the display cant run PWM until lcdc starts is there a way to just use 5 or 7 volts? I have panaflo fans they will slow down with less voltage with no damage.

Hello ghost2501,

If you please check out and try sections 5.2.5 and 5.2.7 "Remember PWM State" and "Remember PWM Base Frequency" of the manual. A combination of these commands will hopefully give you the results you want.

Please let me know how it turns out.

wow I think that is over my head I dont know how to issue commands All I do is use LCDC basically. One of my displays stays on after my computer is off and I have no idea how it takes power from my usb ports when all the other things I plug into them do not get any power. is this sonething that may have been programed in the commands?

Is this something that I can do not knowing anything about how to enter commands or should I just forget about it.

Hi Ghost,

Looks like my colleague was able to get to your question, sorry to hear the answer is a little intimidating. If you have a Windows machine, I think you'll be rather surprised at how easy issuing commands can be using our interface program.

If you have not already, I would urge you to take a look at our uProject software, and in your case, specifically the Upload tab. There are a variety of pre-made commands in the menu on the left that you can drag and drop, but for this you will need the Raw Data command. This will let you enter commands byte by byte in Hexadecimal notation separated at the front and back by a '/'. There is also a built in converter to do any conversions for you. Once you have the commands you want in the list, you can execute them using them by either right clicking, or selecting the leftmost green arrow at the top of the page.

Although it takes a little while to explain, that's all you need to know to issue commands to your display. Of course, if you run into any trouble along the way, feel free to throw up another post, and we'll do our best to guide you through it.

Thanks,

Hi Again Ghost,

After posting those instructions to change the start-up configuration of your display, I have been informed by another colleague that there was a piece of software written some time ago to make it even easier! Boot Edit will allow you to set many aspects of your start-up configuration using a rather simple GUI instead of more complex commands. Feel free to check it out; it will probably be a little easier than the method I described earlier, and if nothing else, it'll be another tool to try out with your display. Again, if you have any further questions, just post them here, and we do our best to get them answered for you.

Thanks,

Troy
