Matrix Orbital and Sony Ericsson Docking Station

Post by TimEG »

Hi,

Not sure if you can help me with this but any suggestions really appreciated. I have a MX4 series and an MX6 series display. Both are great and I rely quite heavily on them for various things. I also have a p900 phone and a p990i phone, both with docking stations.

I have found that when the docking station software is installed for either the p900 or p990i then the MO display doesn't work. When LCDC starts I get the error, 'Unable to open communications with comX" I have tried changing the com port for the MO but for some reason the com port is always in use by another program. Obviously the docking station software is blocking the port somehow. The problem is I need to use the docking station to sync my phone so at present I can't use the MO. It's very frustrating as you can imagine and I can't think of a way to get both working together. If I uninstall the docking station software the displays work again.

This happens with both dispays and both docking stations in various combinations.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi Tim,

It sounds like there are some conflicting resources between the docking station and the MX display. Could you please connect both of the units and then open up 'System Information'. It can be found under your start menu->programs->accessories->system tools. Then click on Hardware Resources-> Conflicts/Sharing and try to find out which resource is conflicting.

Unfortunatly, 'back in the day' when these types of problems were really common, it was as easy as opening up your device manager and manually changing the resource. But I don't see any manual settings on our device, and I wouldn't be surprised if your docking station doesn't have any manual settings that you can adjust either. What you may have to do is find out how to hack either of the devices to change the resources that they use.

Sorry if I can't be of more help, but let me know if this helps at all.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the reply. I did take a look in conflicts/sharing and I couldn't see anything obvious. I couldn't find any obvious entry for the MO or the docking station, I guess because they are named something non-descript. Here is the output just for reference:

I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 PCI bus
I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 Direct memory access controller

I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF Radeon X1900 Series

I/O Port 0x00009000-0x00009FFF PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
I/O Port 0x00009000-0x00009FFF Radeon X1900 Series

IRQ 23 NVIDIA nForce4 Serial ATA RAID Controller
IRQ 23 NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator

Memory Address 0xC0000000-0xCFFFFFFF PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
Memory Address 0xC0000000-0xCFFFFFFF Radeon X1900 Series

Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF PCI bus
Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF Radeon X1900 Series

I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB Radeon X1900 Series

Everything in I/O and IRQ had OK next to it. Before I posted this help request I had looked for a resource setting I could change but didn't find one.. Obviously it's been taken out of XP. That's progress for you!

Strangely I have found a way to boge it working... Just...If I disconnect the MO, reconnect it and then instantly click start on LCDC it works but only if I do it very quickly and don't try to detect the display. Once it's up and running I can use both the LCD and the docking station together. Obviously this is far from practical because it means uplugging and reconnecting the LCD every time I boot but does this give you any additional ideas as to what could be amis?

If you still think it's a resource problem in light of this new info do you have any pointers as to how I can hack the resources. Any links etc?

Cheers for the info, much appreciated!
