Need new controller?

Post by Toonces »

Hi,
I have an LED sign made by namco. It is a 16X96 matrix and the original controller is a sed1351. I have been trying to locate programming instructions to no avail and was wondering if one of your controllers might be capable of driving this panel. The LED panel has a 20 pin connector that connects to it's existing controller. From what I can tell, it uses an 8 bit parallel bus for data and there are 13 of the 20 pins used. The display currently works but scrolls some pre-programmed graphics and text. I would like to be able to interface the panel to a PC to display various messages and graphics. Here are links to a couple of pictures of the panel and the existing controller. The bottom 3 links are to my display as it is working right now just for reference. As you will see, the controller board has a programming connector but I have no information of the protocol used nor the commands to send. While the prog connector is a ps2 style connector it uses 4 wires which go to a custom IC and uses an unknown protocol.

If anyone has an idea on what type of controller I can use to replace the existing one or has any information on programming the existing controller, please let me know.

Thanks

Hi Toonces,

Thanks for posting at the forums.

The subject is not related to Matrix Orbital serial interface displays. This forum is for Matrix Orbital serial interface displays, so if you have any questions or concerns related to MO displays, then I'll be more then happy to answer them for you.

Best Regards,

Hi Tom,
What I was trying to ask is, would any of the MO display boards control the panel. I know it most likely wouldn't be supported in any form but if there was a display I could purchase and remove the LSD to connect this panel, I would like to do so.

Thanks,

Toonces

Hi Toonces,

Matrix Orbital displays are not stand alone units, so they cannot control any device unless they are being controlled by another controller.

I was assuming your panel will send data to the display though, so you will be able to send data to the display, aslong as you can send it via serial communications. If I were to recommend a product for you, it would be a GLK24064-25 because you will be able to upload your own fonts into it. It is also currently the largest display we have. For more details on the display, you can refer to the http://www.matrixorbital.com/index.php? ... aphic-lcds . Also please check if the display is an appropriate size for you. I looked at your LED sign, and it looks quite large.

If you have anymore questions or concerns, please feel free to post.

Best Regards,
