Fan Control

Post by mikerm19 »

This is kind of a hardware and software problem.

When I use LCDC to turn off the GPO, my fans don't completely turn off, what is causing that and is there a solution?

Mike :)

What model is your unit?

Have you tried using other programs other than LCDC to turn off the GPO? Uproject works well for testing, it should come with the ecd that came with your display. If not you can email me at support@matrixorbital.ca, and I will send you a copy. It might just be an LCDC problem.

Does it do the same for all the GPOs?

(MX212 USB, 3 fans on all 3 GPO's - all 3 fans act the same, controlled by LCDC)

Wow, that was crazy, as I was writing my reply, the fans went to max and my computer completely locked, couldnt even ctrl+alt+del in WinXP.

Anyway, as I was trying to say:

If I use the digital control for fan speed, they flicker bad. I cant remember if there was soultion, I will do some more digging.
If they are at full speed, you can barely notice the flicker.

They are all tri-led blue Antec fans.

If I turn the GPO completely off without any other fan control the fans stay on, slow speed and dimly lit, but not flickering.

If I turn the GPO on, without any other fan control, they go to normal speed, and normal brightness, without flickering.

I can't believe I got a reply so fast, you guys are awesome!
:D

Do your fans have RPM reading capability...??? If so, can you disable the RPM sensing and using BootEdit (this is available on your eCD), try adjusting your GPO default frequency (this is located under "edit GPO defaults")...Let me know how you make out... :D

Oh wow, thats cool.

It seems that if I set it to 38.2Hz it stops the flashing. So that works.

So, Tri-LED Antec fans, 38.2Hz. :)

They have RPM capability, but I can live without that.

It actually produces an interesting light affect on the blades.

You know, this display is great! I knew I would like it, but wow, even for the few months I have had it I still love it to death, you guys do awesome work!

Thanks for the help! You guys rock!
