VFD's heat output - significant??

Post by gizmo1990 »

I'm ploughing on with a mod I'm doing involving a VFD and my Shuttle <:) and I have a quick temperature related question.

Basically do VFD's generate a lot of heat? I'm not looking for an exact number but do they generate a significant amount, say more then a hard drive?

My VFD is a VK202-24-USB.

Normally VFD don't dissipate much heat, however, if you have the wide voltage model, then it will dissipate a little bit more heat than the regular VFD.

Hi Tom, thanks for the quick reply!
Wide voltage model?? How would I tell if I have such a thing?

The wide voltage model has a linear regulator attached to it. Our units that use the wide voltage has a V as the last part of the model number. In your case you won't have a wide voltage model because it is powered by USB.

Cool, thanks.
So am I right in thinking it wouldn't give off anything like the heat of a hard drive?

Your welcome! Your display will not get as hot as the hard drive. :)
