Unable to use AT keyboard connection

Okay, so I soldered an AT keyboard header to the display. (5 data? points plus 2 ground? points)
Plug the display in, then plug in a keyboard. Keyboards lights blink (NL, SL, CL) but do not stay on. Pressing the appropriate key does not make the light stay on.
I started my comm port/lcd program and established a connection through the port. Displayed text to the display to verify that the connection worked. The LCD isn't returning any key presses.
According to the manual, the default mode is to immediately send keypresses, but just to check, I polled the buffer and nothing is returned.

I'm guessing the AT header isn't wired up properly, but my soldering looks solid.... Any ideas?

On the PCB, can you tell me what the part number of the microprocessor being used is...? PIC16C...?

That would be a PIC16C63A-207SO

Unfortunately we use this PCB for two different part numbers and the PIC16C63A is associated with the LCD4041 and not the LK404AT. Although the PCB is the same, the firmware (and some hardware!) is very different. An AT connector can be attached, but the appropriate firmware needs to used to incorporate the required changes...
